The loss of a loved one can be an extremely emotional and stressful time. The death of a spouse or child is considered a qualified life event. When confronted with the death of a loved one, the surviving family of the deceased dependent should consider the information below.

If you want to make changes to your benefits, log into myAGBenefits or call the AGBenefits Service Center at (877) 213-6240.

Health Care/Dental/Vision

If you need to change your benefit elections due to this life event, the change in coverage must be consistent with the family status change. For example, if you lose a dependent, you will need to remove that dependent from coverage.

Flexible Spending Accounts

You may want to make a change to your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) election if a dependent passes away. The American Greetings Healthcare Flexible Spending Account and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account enables you to use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible medical, dental, vision (“limited purpose” if enrolled in an H.S.A.) and dependent care expenses. You have up to 30 days after the qualifying event to make the change.

Life & AD&D Insurance

If enrolled in Dependent Life and/or Optional Family AD&D you should contact AGBenefits Service Contact at (877) 213-6240. After the claim has been filed, address claim inquiries to MetLife Claims Processing at: (800) 638-6420.

If you are not covering other dependents you will need to cancel the coverage by contacting the AGBenefits Service Center at (877) 213-6240.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The loss of a loved one can be an extremely emotional and stressful time. American Greetings provides free assistance and information to all AG benefits-eligible associates, regardless of plan enrollment through the Employee Assistance Program.
